Cork Jazz Festival: A Music Lover's Dream Come True

The Cork Jazz Festival is an annual music event that takes place in the city of Cork, Ireland, at the end of October. It is Ireland's biggest jazz event and has been held every year since its inception in 1978. This year, the festival returns to Cork City from October 22nd to 25th, and tickets are now on sale for the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, Ireland's first major festival in more than 18 months. The festival was first conceived by Jim Mountjoy, the marketing director of the Metropole Hotel, as a way to bring life to the hotel during a quiet October holiday weekend. The first Jazz Festival was held at the hotel with performances at the Everyman Opera and Theater.

Tickets cost £1.50 and were sponsored by John Player. Since then, the festival has grown to include more than 100 concerts and 15 pubs and venues in the city centre. Guinness replaced John Player as sponsor in 1982 and expanded the festival even further. Now, more than 40,000 visitors come to Cork every year to experience the festival.

The Metropole Hotel remains the home of jazz in Cork and its sold-out jazz festival club is a popular destination for music fans. The Cork Jazz Festival features around 1000 musicians from more than 30 countries playing in more than 80 venues across the city, along with a series of Fringe events. Legendary jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Cleo Laine and Chick Corea have all headlined the Cork Jazz Festival in the past. This year's headliner is Yasiin Bey Big Band FKA Mos Def who will perform with a live band for the first time in Ireland. The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is an unforgettable weekend for music lovers and a great opportunity to experience some of the best jazz music from around the world.
